A Guide to Cone-ing

Cone-ing is a new, fun thing to do with your friends if you happen to be near a fast-food restaurant. Typically, it is easier to do this at McDonald's, as they have two windows: the first for paying, the second for food pick-up. Unlike other activities like this, such as "Fire in the Hole," it will not get anyone in trouble, but might get the person's hand a little messy.

Fire in the Hole is a game sometimes played at drive-thru's where the customer orders a drink, receives the drink, then proceeds to throw the drink back into the window while yelling "Fire in the hole!" This often gets the customers in trouble because they eventually either return to do it again, or to purchase a meal.

Cone-ing is a harmless activity where the driver orders an ice cream cone, and pays for it at the first window. At the second window, the driver will be handed the cone. At this point, the driver has many options. It can be done many ways, but the idea is to grab the ice cream cone by the ice cream, not the cone. Again, at this stage the driver has many options. One option is to awkwardly or nervously stare at the window attendant and not say a word. This option allows for an awkward response from the attendant, who may ask if the customer would like some napkins, a new cone, or could realize what is going on and just close the window.

Another option could be to hastily grab the cone by the ice cream, then let out some words of frustration seeing that the ice cream is ruined. This method allows for a bit more sympathy from the attendant, as it looks more like an accident.

There are other methods out there, and many that will be created, but make sure to discreetly capture the experience on camera, as it makes for a great video. Since there are many variables in the complex equation of cone-ing, your experience will seldom be the same.

For first time coners, be careful of accelerating to quickly after grabbing your cone. Often times, first time coners will grab the ice cream, and lose their cool, accelerating the car very quickly away from the window towards pedestrians, parked cars, or oncoming traffic.

Cone-ing can be very fun, but do not let your fun come at the expense of the restaurant's employees. That being said, there is a limitless number of ways to cone, so mix it up. Try ordering two, three, or four cones and improvise from there. Cone-ing can turn a boring day into a great day, so try it out.
